Magic Spoon

Medicine is a very big challenge around our house. You would figure we are experienced after Brode has been on many antibiotics from colds, sugery, and pneumonia, but we are highly NOT experienced! The pharmacist insisted that Brode would be much better with the syringe than the spoon even though we knew his gramps could get it to him easily on the spoon. When Brode came home from the hospital after surgery he had to have 6 or 7 ml of antibiotics. This doesn't sound like much but when put into a syringe it is a LOT, especially since it doesn't all fit so you must refill. This time around he only needs 2.5ml of antiobiotic, and 2ml of steroid. I was so happy and thought it would be a lot easier since we were forced to use the syringe. WRONG! First dose of steroid was perfect, first dose of antibiotic was down his shirt, stomach, pants, and high chair. Next dose of steroid down the shirt, but the antibiotic made it to the mouth this time. Clearly this was not going to work. To get optimal results he needs both at the same time. Last night I finally decided we were switching back to the spoon so I measured them out in the syringe, squirted them onto one of his bright colored spoons and his jaw flew open. Because he is on toddler spoons it took 4 and 1/2 spoons fulls to get them both completely down, but he was mad when I had to put it away, he wanted more! Every dose has been perfect ever since and I am a lot less stressed knowing he is getting the perfect dosage. Hopefully now it will start to work and get rid of this cough!
